Senior Attorney, Global Marketing

This position will report to the Chief Global Marketing Counsel and will focus on Global Brand Marketing and Strategic Alliances.

Position Summary/Main duties:

  • Review label copy, advertising, and promotional materials from an FDA and FTC regulatory and advertising perspective for cosmetic, over-the-counter drug, and dietary supplement products to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Review similar materials for Avon's non-CFT products, such as textiles, jewelry, home goods, medical devices, insect repellants, etc.

  • Evaluate and advise R&D on testing methodologies and claims substantiation.

  • Assess regulatory risks and provide daily counsel to business, scientific, and creative groups to arrive at compliant product claims while understanding and meeting business needs and objectives.

  • Support Avon's Strategic Alliances group. Negotiate and draft global talent/celebrity agreements, license agreements and other partnership/alliance agreements. Provide regular counsel and assist in ongoing management of alliance relationships.

  • Negotiate and draft intellectual property-related agreements and other agreements originating from marketing organization, such as sponsorships, co-promotions, releases, advertising agency, public relations, and service agreements.

  • Advise on sweepstakes, contests, and promotions, generally.


  • JD Degree

  • Bar admission

  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant law firm or in-house experience is required.

  • In-house experience in a Consumer Packaged Goods company is highly preferred.

  • In-depth understanding of laws and regulations (primarily FDA and FTC) as they affect the labeling, promotion, and advertising of Avon's cosmetic and over-the-counter drug products. Familiarity with other regulatory requirements that may impact Avon's products and marketing business.

  • Understanding of intellectual property concepts and ability to spot such issues in review of advertisements and promotions.

  • Ability to manage, negotiate, and progress contracts from initial discussion stages to completion in a timely manner.

  • Confidence and ability to multi-task, assess risks and make sound business decisions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Very strong interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills.
