Technical Sales Representative
Description:
We are seeking a Technical Sales Representative for a privately held, entrepreneurial Bakersfield company. The owner/founder, educated in physics, is very involved with problem solving through ingenuity and science. Customers will approach him with a problem and his team of field sales representatives figure out solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering or Biology with 3-5 years hands-on experience with one or more of the following industries; water, waste water, oil production, food processing or mining. Ideally, at some point in their career, they took their education and past experience and went into sales.
You will be engaged in extensive overnight travel that may often require a week or more on the road. Within about 3-5 years, you probably will have the opportunity to take a position with less travel but that is not guaranteed.
You need to be a hands-on individual who will be able to communicate with customers at every level within all industries mentioned above.
You must have a strong sense of curiosity, be exceptional at sales/customer service, have the ability to develop life-time customer/vendor relationships, have technical knowledge and a desire to problem solve. A strong understanding of plant and/or field operations, regulations and standards is a plus.

You will work hard, both independently and as part of a team, but the pay-back is that you will be appreciated, paid well and respected for a job well-done. However, a humble demeanor is essential. A âhot-shotâ will not fit into our client's culture.
Our client offers a competitive base salary, excellent commission structure, health insurance, 401K, company vehicle and paid expenses. The representative will be assigned to one or more geographical territories and must be willing to travel and stay overnight depending on the location of the accounts.
Requirements:
You need:
- Strong prior outside technical sales experience.
- A degree in science and/or engineering.
- The ability to travel extensively
- To be a critical thinker and a problem solver
