Description: Mid-Kansas, Inc., a subsidiary of Cox Communications, Inc., is seeking an outgoing, technically oriented individual with outstanding organizational skills to join our team. As a Microwave Technician, you will be responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of our microwave distribution system. Installs, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots the inside Fibernet data network and fiber plant. Cox Illustrative Accountabilities: Installs, configures, tests and troubleshoots inside microwave and wireless network equipment as required. Ensures the quality of electronic data and video inside plant equipment installations and associated materials. Responds to data and video equipment alarms Repairs Ethernet, OC3 or any other form of transport of video or data on the microwave or wireless system. Assist with the installation, alignment, and removal of antennas mounted on towers, roof tops and etc. Performs data and video network troubleshooting, status checks and maintenance. Receives work orders from system manager, office manager, SOC, or after hours call center and troubleshoots and repairs data and video network issues Communicates equipment and network issues and solutions to the Plant Manager as appropriate. Directs contractors on installation of inside plant equipment as required. Escalates any inside plant issues to the Plant Manager for assistance. Tracks escalations as appropriate. Meets periodically with the Plant Manager to discuss performance. Generates inside plant reports for the Plant Manager as required. Assists the Plant Manager with other projects as necessary. Identifies areas for inside plant process improvement and communicates them to the Plant Manager. Maintains current knowledge and uses all appropriate processes and procedures for all Transmission, Video & Data Technician systems/applications. Maintains repair and maintenance inventory by coordinating with the System Manager. Remains current on the latest data network technology through completion of required/recommended training. Maintains a commitment to safe practices and holds others equally accountable. Performs tower site maintainance, air conditioner cleaning, vegetation spraying. Reports to System Manager other issues needing attention at tower sites. The location of this position is flexible to a Cox Kansas system city or town with the exception of Salina. Travel required. High School Diploma or GED required. Ability to travel across the state of Kansas required. Ability to travel to Arkansas at times as required by the business. Experience maintaining inside plant preferred. Knowledge of communications industry. Experience with Ethernet, DS 1, OC3 and DS 3 preferred. Knowledge of SONET networks preferred. Knowledge of Analog and digital video. Knowledge of transport (OC 12, OC 48, OC 3) preferred. Knowledge of LAN/WAN, ATM, SNMP via UDP/IP and router technology highly preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks required. Strong organizational skills. Proficient computer skills including Windows based applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook) required. Ability to work flexible hours and/or on call required.
