SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Manages the process of Global R&D Collaboration and Contract Design & Manufacturing (CDM) efforts for Mechanical Devices, Soft Tissue Repair, & Biosurgery R&D groups on their Research, Technology Development and Product Development projects to ensure competent suppliers and resolution of systematic issues. Researches best practices, investigates needs, establishes metrics, analyzes associated data, creates & continuously improving the process, and drives results using project engineering skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Determines supplier needs and develops outsourcing proposals to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of project outcomes. Makes outsourcing recommendations to New Product Development Project Leaders and core team members.
2. Enable Global R&D collaboration by identifying, auditing and supporting qualified contract developers and manufacturers to deliver services required by Surgical Devices internal development groups.
3. Utilize Global R&D Collaboration partners and project engineering skills to drive a range of deliverables from simple tasks to complete turn-key projects for internal Research, Technology Development, and Product Development (PD) leaders and teams to both widen the PD pipeline and shorten time to market.
4. Provide CDM process management support including process development, approval and revision as required. Work directly with Global R&D Director, external resources and internal cross-functional groups to drive corporate proficiencies in outsourcing.
5. Support management of CDM initiatives through collaboration, oversight and liaison between external resources and internal project teams utilizing project engineering skills.
6. Conduct ongoing analysis in support of improvement initiatives by using financial and business metrics. Provide data analysis to identify root causes, create or validate hypotheses, determine predictive impact of solutions, and quantify project benefits/financial impact.
7. Modeling current processes to predict throughput, bottlenecks, and come up with improvement ideas and processes. Be able to implement improved processes.
8. Establishing scorecards for CDM KPIâs and ensuring the update and accuracy of KPI scorecard data.
9. Collecting and analyzing VOC on the External Service and CDM partners.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
Education required/ preferred: BS in Engineering or work experience equivalent; MS in Engineering and/ or MBA preferred
Experience: BS/MS with 5 years experience in Product Development or Business Process Sourcing, including experience in Design for Six Sigma or DMAIC methodology applied to product development projects or process improvement projects. Or High School diploma with 9 years years experience. Prefer experience managing offshored, outsourced resources & projects. Prefer medical device development experience
Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Offshoring, outsourcing resource management skills;
Medical Device research, tech. dev., prod. dev. skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position does not require all work be done on site in an office setting. Work may be completed in an off site setting using a laptop computer.
